The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District is currently looking for a Grade II Plant Operator but will welcome a Grade I with stipulations to get a Grade II within a reasonable time, as short as 6 months up to 1 year, and desired to get a Grade III.
General responsibilities will be safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Treatment Facility with periodic assistance to the Collections System as needed.
The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District provides wastewater services for seven cities and the unincorporated areas around Big Spirit Lake and the Okoboji lakes. The area is known for the 15, 000 acres of natural lakes primarily for recreational usage from boating to fishing and hunting. The area is a vacation destination for the whole Midwest which can have up to a million visitors a year.
The Sanitary District is a different setup from most wastewater operations, in that it has 64 lift stations and over 100 miles of gravity sewer.
The Treatment Plant is a 10-year-old Activated Sludge System with a 7.2 MGD capacity, plus a Diversion System for an additional 4.5 MGD storage. Due to seasonal fluctuations the plant is essentially separated to be able to operate into 3 stages depending on flow and loading and has UV Disinfection. Facility also has Anaerobic Digestion and Land Application of Class B Biosolids.
-Possess Class B CDL with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements. District will assist in obtaining.
-Require residing within set boundaries, which are a generous distance.
-Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
-Grade II Certification, or able to obtain with 12 months or less.
-Able to work weekend and be on-call every other week.
-Strong pump & motor repair is desired.
-SCADA controls knowledge is beneficial.
