Collection System
The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District (IGLSD) collection system gathers wastewater from homes, businesses and local municipalities through pipes, manholes and lift stations and delivers this water to the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The district collects waste water through pipes that extend beyond 100 miles, connected by 3,600 manholes and 64 lift stations.
The Cities of Spirit Lake, Arnolds Park, Okoboji and Milford all have their own collections systems that empty into the IGLSD Collection system. The IGLSD fully owns the collection systems in Orleans, Wahpeton, West Okoboji and the some of the unincorporated areas around the Iowa Great Lakes. The system is constantly upgraded, inspected and maintained to limit the impact to private property and to the water quality of the Iowa Great Lakes.
